We've been fixing garage doors across Detroit, Dearborn, and the surrounding neighborhoods long enough to know that most problems fall into a handful of categories. Springs, cables, panels, tracks, rollers, openers, weather seals. We carry the parts, we know the repairs, and we can usually get to you same day. See our 2025 Detroit repair cost guide if you want a ballpark before you call.
"Most repairs we see are things we've fixed hundreds of times. Springs, cables, tracks, openers. We carry the parts, we know the fix, and we're usually at your door within a few hours."

What's happening?
Select a symptom
We'll tell you the likely cause and cost
Broken torsion spring
The bang is the spring snapping under tension. The door can't lift without it. Do not try to force it open manually or with the opener.
Spring losing tension
The spring is wearing out gradually. It hasn't snapped yet, but the door is getting harder to lift because the spring can't counterbalance the weight anymore. Fix it before it breaks completely.
Off-track or broken cable
If one side moves faster, a cable may have snapped or the door has jumped the track. Could also be a worn roller or bent track section. We check all three.
Worn rollers or dry hardware
Grinding means metal-on-metal contact, usually worn rollers or dry bearings. Squealing is often a dry torsion spring or hinges. A tune-up or roller swap usually solves it.
Panel replacement
We can replace individual panels without replacing the whole door. We match the style, color, and insulation value of your existing panels. Bottom panels are the most commonly hit.
Safety sensor or opener issue
If the door reverses before hitting the floor, the safety sensors are misaligned, dirty, or failing. If it stops partway, the opener's force limit may need adjusting. Both are quick fixes.
Seal replacement
The rubber seals along the bottom and sides wear out, crack, and shrink in Detroit winters. We replace bottom seals, side seals, and threshold seals with freeze-rated material.
Common repair issues
Broken springs
That loud bang from the garage at 6 AM? That's a spring letting go. The door won't move after that. We replace torsion and extension springs same-day, and we'll check the cables while we're there since they take the hit too. See our spring replacement page for full details on options.
$200 - $400
Includes replacement, tension adjustment, safety inspection
Off-track doors
Salt corrosion eats mounting brackets in Detroit garages faster than people expect. A bent track or loose hardware sends the door sideways in the rollers. We realign the track, replace damaged rollers, and tighten the hardware so it stays put. More on track repair.
$150 - $350
Includes track realignment, roller replacement, hardware tightening
Broken cables
Frayed or snapped cables make the door operate crooked and can drop a panel unexpectedly. We always replace cables in pairs and inspect the drums for wear at the same time. Cable replacement details here.
$150 - $300
Includes cable pair replacement and drum inspection
Damaged panels
A bumper tap, a stray hockey puck, or a rough winter can dent or crack a panel. We source matching replacement panels for most major brands and install them without touching the rest of the door. Panel replacement info.
$200 - $500
Varies by panel size, material, and availability
Roller replacement
Loud grinding or squealing when the door moves usually means the rollers are shot. We replace the full set of 10 to 12 rollers at once. Nylon rollers run quiet for most residential doors; steel for heavier applications. More on roller replacement.
$150 - $300
Full set replacement (10-12 rollers) including installation
Weather seal replacement
Detroit winters are not kind to rubber seals. When the bottom seal cracks or the side seals shrink away from the frame, cold air, snow, and water get in. We use freeze-resistant materials rated for Michigan temperatures. Weatherstripping details.
$100 - $250
Includes bottom seal, side seals, and threshold
Don't replace the whole door
Most panel damage from a car bump or storm hit can be fixed by swapping just the damaged section. We match the style, color, and insulation value. A single panel replacement runs $200-500, which is a fraction of a full door.
Opener repair
We work on every opener brand you'll find in a Detroit home. LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman, and everything else. Whether the motor burned out, the gears stripped, or the remote stopped responding, we diagnose it and fix it the same visit. See our full opener repair page for more detail.
Motor and gear repair
Stripped gears and worn motors are the most common opener failure. We repair or replace components based on age and what makes financial sense.
$150 - $400
Safety sensor service
Misaligned or dirty sensors stop the door from closing. We clean, realign, or replace the sensors and confirm the reversal test passes before we leave.
$100 - $200
Remote programming
Lost remotes, new remotes, keypad setup, and smart home integration. We program all opener brands and get every device working before we wrap up.
$50 - $100
